About PDC

Planning, Design & Construction (PDC) provides professional support services and facilitates best practices in capital project planning, development and construction on behalf of our internal clients. PDC provides comprehensive guidance related to the institution’s built environment; specifically, strategic guidance supportive of campus master planning, programming, architectural development, building efforts and best design practices.

PDC is a department of Institutional Support Services (ISS), this group builds and maintains the physical spaces of UNM with a focus on collaborative outcomes aligned with the University’s mission. With an emphasis on quality services, our dedicated staff serves to enhance the campus experience with safe, clean, and beautiful environments.

Planning

PDC Planning is responsible for the development and coordination of the University’s long-range facility and campus plans, implementing integrated plans, and maintaining standards for the University's land across New Mexico.

Project Managment

Planning, Design & Construction project management staff includes Associate Project Managers, Project Managers, and Senior Project Managers, all who manage projects from small renovations to large complex multi-million dollar facilities. The project management staff reports to the Associate Director. PDC project managers help safeguard the goals and objectives of a funded project while ensuring the balance of scope, schedule, and budget and coordinating with internal stakeholders and partners, professional consultants, and construction teams.

Interiors

Planning, Design and Construction provides direction and oversight for furnishings, flooring, paint, and other finishes; establishes interior environment standards and guidelines and advocates for the reuse, repurpose, or reconfiguration of furniture when appropriate or feasible.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a core value at UNM, and is deeply integrated into the work of Planning, Design & Construction. The maintenance and operation of campus buildings is the single largest source of campus greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at UNM. PDC and its consultants design and build all projects with consideration for the environmental impact over the life of the facility. We not only emphasize the initial capital costs of the building but carefully consider the life cycle costs associated with the operations and maintenance of the facility. We meet or exceed the U. S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver standard per the Governor's Executive Order 2006-001.

Historic Preservation

Planning, Design & Construction works closely with Facilities Management and the UNM Regents' Historic Preservation Committee to uphold the UNM Heritage Preservation Plan, maintain the University's historic resources (buildings and heritage zones) and assists University departments that occupy these spaces with the preservation and protection of these resources.
